My Best Onsen in Kochi - Matsubakawa Onsen

We don't have many hot springs in Kochi compared with other prefectures. But I believe that the quality of the water here is as excellent as that of famous onsen resorts such as Dogo in Ehime Pref. and Beppu in Oita Pref.

One of the high-end onsens in Kochi, Matsubakawa Onsen located in Kubokawa, Shimanto Town, is one of my best onsens in Kochi. What I like the best in this onsen is the open air bath, the view from which is magnificent especially in the season of autumn colored leaves.

The good quality of the water is also one of the reasons that I choose this as my best. The abundant waters are crystal clear and velvety smooth. I'm sure all women will have silky skin after bathing.

The Matsubakawa Onsen has a hotel and dishes served at the hotel's restaurant are large and delicious, but inexpensive. Many of the meals are used many kinds of local ingredients including wild vegetables and sweetfish caught in the Shimanto River, one of the most famous rivers in Japan. You can choose Japanese-style room when you stay in the hotel.

Last but not least, there is a Japanese-style wooden house adjacent to the onsen where you can experience soba noodles making. The building is called “Hokushin no Yakata,” and it takes about one hour to make your original soba noodles. Reservation is required for the experience.

Bath for day trip visitors: From 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Price: ¥500 for adults, ¥250 for children
Soba making: ¥2500 per person (included four servings) TEL: 0880-23-0615
Cost: Overnight with dinner and breakfast - from ¥10,125 (per person in a Japanese room)
Hotel Reservation: TEL 0880-23-0611
